Accepting PayPal can help your organization:

3. How can I begin to accept PayPal donations?
It’s fast and simple at
www.paypal.com:
  1. Sign up for a PayPal business account. You'll need to have your organization's checking account number.
  2. Create a Donate button.
  3. Add the Donate button to your website.
4. Is there additional documentation that I need to provide to PayPal to confirm my organization's nonprofit status?
You may be asked to supply tax returns or other supporting documentation. You will be contacted by PayPal if additional information is required.

5. How will I receive donations made with PayPal?
Donations will appear in your organization's PayPal account. You can see the donor name, donation amount, and date of the donation within the Transaction Details page.

6. How can I accept donations from donors who don't have a PayPal account?
Donors without a PayPal account can still donate – either by creating an account or paying by credit card on the PayPal website.

7. What can I do with the money that is deposited in my PayPal account?
You can spend your balance with other merchants who accept PayPal. You can move funds at no charge to your organization's checking account.

8. How much does PayPal cost?
PayPal offers new lower transaction fees for nonprofits. Fees are applied only when you accept a contribution. If you don’t receive donations, you don’t pay. You will not be charged setup fees or recurring monthly fees.

Nonprofit transaction fees are 1.9% +$.30 per transaction for organizations with over $100,000 monthly volume and 2.2% +$.30 per transaction for organizations with less than $100,000 monthly volume. To be eligible, you must have documented 501(c)(3) status or you will not receive the reduced nonprofit transaction fees. This applies to new and existing PayPal accounts.

9. What product is right for my organization?
Most nonprofits with less than $100,000 in annual income choose to use the Donate button, which is fast and easy to integrate into your website.
  • Donors will complete their donation on the PayPal website.
  • Your organization does not receive the donor's financial details, such as credit card number, so you are not responsible for protecting this sensitive data.

10. How do I create a website for my organization to accept donations with PayPal?
Many options are available to you. The right choice for you depends on the sophistication of the website you want. Hosting options, from basic to more advanced, include:
  • MySpace or Facebook, for a free one-page website
  • Yahoo! SiteBuilder
  • PayPal shopping cart partners, which provide complete online stores
11. What will my donors see when they donate with PayPal?
After clicking the Donate button, the user will be directed to PayPal, where the user will be shown the following 3 screens:

Screen 1, Option A: Log in to PayPal, shown to all users believed to have PayPal accounts (based on cookies).

12. What reports are available to my organization?
Your organization may obtain daily reports online within your PayPal account at
https://business.paypal.com. Real-time view of transactions is available within your account online.

13. I’ve heard about the viral PayPal widgets. What do these widgets do?
The widgets enable nonprofits and individuals to raise money on social networking sites and their supporters’ web pages. The widgets are viral because supporters can copy them and add them to their own webpages. You can track progress against a goal and acknowledge top supporters. Donors check out securely on the PayPal site.

14. How can my organization obtain these widgets?
Widgets are available for MySpace, Facebook, and for the web.

 
  • MySpace donation widget is available to nonprofits at www.myspace.com/paypal . Each organization that creates a widget will be reviewed by PayPal, so consumers can be confident that your organization is legitimate.
  • Facebook application is available at http://apps.facebook.com/paypalapps/  and is intended for personal fundraising.
  • Giving widget is available at https://giving.paypallabs.com  and is intended for personal and nonprofit fundraising on websites and blogs.

More than $100,000 in monthly volume: 1.9% + $.30 per transaction

PayPal lets you easily collect donations from your website. Our Donation Buttons are ideal for nonprofit groups and other organizations that collect online donations.

To use Website Payments Standard, you need a Premier or Business account.


Step 1: Implement Donations

 

To use PayPal to collect donations on your website, follow these steps:

  • After logging into PayPal, go to the Donations page.

     

  • Enter your information.

     

  • Copy and paste the HTML code automatically generated by PayPal into your website.


Step 2: Select additional features (optional)

 

PayPal recommends the following features for use with Donations:

  • Customization: Provide your customers a seamless experience by customizing your PayPal payment pages with your colors and logos.

     

  • Auto Return: Automatically return customers to your website after they have completed their payment by using Auto Return.
