JV 7-on-7 Passing Tournament

Saturday - July 17, 2009

Click here to print the rules listed below.

Dixon Rams 2nd Annual 7 on 7 Passing League Tournament

Rules and Game Set Up

Rules:

1.     All Players Must Wear Helmets while on the Field

2.     The game will start with a coin flip, with the winning team choosing if they want to start on offense or defense. Whichever team starts on defense will start on offense in the second half, and vice versa.

3.     Each game will consist of two 15 minute running clock halves, with a 5 minute half time.

4.     In the last 2 minutes of the game (in elimination Play) the clock will stop on

a.     incomplete passes

b.     passes caught and the player getting out of bounds

c.      turnovers

5.     The offensive team will start on the 40 yard line and have 3 plays to get a first down.  Teams have 4 plays to score from inside the 10 yard line. If they do not get a first down, then the defensive team takes over on offense.

6.     We are playing “solid” one-hand touch games, meaning that if a defensive player’s fingertips touch the receiver, but there is no way that a tackle could have been made, then the play will continue. It is up to the referee’s discretion to make a call of when a receiver has been stopped.

7.     The quarterback will have 4 seconds to release the ball, before a sack is called and the down is over.

8.     When a team scores a touchdown, they may go for 1 extra point from the 3 yard line or 2 points from the 8 yard line.

9.     Scoring:

a.     Touchdown: 6

b.     Point after: 1 or 2

c.      Interception: 3

10.                        Over time:  If at the end of regulation in pool play the game is tied, each team will get 1 possession to score from the 10 yard line. If the score is still tied after both teams have had an offensive possession, then the pool play game will end in a tie. During the elimination tournament, if regulation ends in a tie, then both teams will take equal numbers of alternating offensive possessions from the 10 yard line until one team has outscored the other. In any overtime game—pool play or elimination—teams must try for the extra point from the 8 yard line.

Tournament Games:

The first three games for each team will be pool play games,

to seed them for the elimination tournament at the end of the day.

Hi Coaches,

I am so excited that your school are going to play in the 2nd annual Dixon High School JV passing league tournament.  Below are directions to the High School (do not Google map it, Google will take you to the old high school).  There are 8 teams in the tournament and the games will start at 8:30.  Attached you will find your team packet, with game times and brackets.  Also there will be water and Gatorade sold at the tournament and we will have order forms if you want to buy your team pizza for lunch.  We are hoping that all team will bring helmets (for player's safety) if your team can not get helmets both team in your games will play without them.  The winning team will receive T-shirts and a trophy and 2nd place will receive a trophy.  If you have any questions please call me at 707-693-1718.

Thanks,
