Alumni Former DHS Players
2005 - Ryan Hedberg (Dixon Tribune - Nov 25, 2007) Ryan Hedberg named to first-team All-Valley Conference
Former DHS superstar, Ryan Hedberg, was recently named a first-team All-Valley Conference wide receiver. Hedberg plays for the Sierra College Wolverines of Sacramento who are ranked No. 2 in Northern California and No. 7 nationally; both rankings are a first in school history. They finished 9-1 overall, 5-0 in their conference, and will play for their first Northern California title on December 1st in San Francisco. As conference champions, they will play City College of San Francisco in the Hawaiian Punch Community College Bowl. The winner will advance to the California Community College Athletic Association Football Championship on December 8 in Fresno. Hedberg is a 2005 graduate of Dixon High School who excelled in three sports (football, basketball, baseball) for all four years and is considered by many as the best athlete to graduate from DHS this decade. Ryan was co-Captain for the Rams his senior year and received “CVC Outstanding Back of the Year” honors. His accolades also include CVC All-Conference as selected by the CVC Coaches, All-Metro HM as selected by the Sacramento Bee, and All-Northern Solano County as selected by the Vacaville Reporter. His DHS awards include the Ram’s Team Leadership Award, Special Teams Coordinator Player of the Year, and the coveted “4-year helmet” award. Hedberg’s hard work on the field and in the weight room, combined with his leadership qualities, made him the obvious choice to be the first recipient of the Coach Ira “Red” Finney Scholarship Award recognizing the efforts and sacrifices athletes make in pursuit of furthering their educational and career goals. It is presented by DHS’s Coaching Staff each year on behalf of all DHS football coaches…past, present, future…and is on permanent display at Dixon High School. Hedberg’s current head coach Jeff Tisdel, CCCAA Coach of the Year, says “Ryan is a premier player” that has “stepped up and made some great plays for the team.” Ryan has 58 receptions for 966 yards, averages 16.7 yards per catch, and 7 touchdowns for 42 points this season. He is in the top ten in the state for receptions, average yards per reception, and total receiving yards. Hedberg and fellow All-Valley Conference teammate Carl Moore have combined for almost 2,000 yards to become the best receiving duo in the state. Both should surpass the 1,000 yard mark during the title game. In his last two games, Hedberg caught 19 passes for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a school record 90-yard receiving touchdown.
Sierra football fans can hear all their games on KAHI 950 (AM) and KAHI.com. As a team, the Wolverines are averaging 41.5 points per game while holding opponents to 21.6. Their balanced offense averages 477.8 yards per game with 258.5 passing and an impressive 14.5 yards per catch. Sierra College captured its first-ever “A Division” football conference championship earlier this month in only their second year competing at this level.
